2027: They Have Reduced The Next Election To Atiku; Nobody Is Talking About BAT Again - Momodu

In a recent interview on Arise TV, ADC chieftain and veteran journalist Dele Momodu expressed concern over what he described as an increasingly narrow focus in Nigeria’s pre-2027 political discussions, particularly within opposition circles.

During the interview, Momodu stated, “They have reduced the next election to Atiku Abubakar; nobody is talking about BAT again.”

He made the remark while reacting to the growing dominance of discussions around former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in political debates leading up to the 2027 general election.

Momodu argued that the current political conversation has become overly concentrated on Atiku’s ambition, while downplaying the influence and incumbency strength of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, this imbalance in public discourse risks creating a distorted perception of the actual political landscape.

He explained that elections are not determined by public debate trends or media narratives alone, but by broader factors such as party structure, grassroots mobilization, regional alliances, and voter turnout across the country.

The ADC chieftain noted that while Atiku remains a major figure within the opposition, focusing solely on one individual could weaken strategic planning and limit the opposition’s ability to present a unified front ahead of 2027.

Momodu further stated that political attention should be distributed across all major actors in the race, including the incumbent president, rather than reducing the contest to a single personality.

He concluded that a balanced political analysis is necessary for understanding the dynamics of Nigeria’s electoral process, stressing that over-personalizing the race could lead to miscalculations by political stakeholders preparing for the next general election.
