Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview on Symfoni TV while discussing governance, insecurity, leadership, and the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the interview, the PRP chairman said, “BAT is a prisoner of his own ego; he is the most powerful president we have had since 1999.”
According to Baba-Ahmed, President Tinubu has accumulated enormous political influence and authority since assuming office, making him one of the strongest political figures in Nigeria’s democratic era.
However, he argued that having significant political power does not automatically guarantee effective governance or better living conditions for citizens.
The former presidential adviser expressed concern that excessive concentration of power around the presidency can sometimes isolate leaders from the realities facing ordinary people.

However, he argued that having significant political power does not automatically guarantee effective governance or better living conditions for citizens.
The former presidential adviser expressed concern that excessive concentration of power around the presidency can sometimes isolate leaders from the realities facing ordinary people.
According to him, when access to a president becomes limited to a small group of advisers and loyal political associates, it becomes difficult for leaders to receive honest feedback from the wider population.
Baba-Ahmed maintained that such situations can prevent leaders from fully understanding the extent of challenges affecting citizens across the country.
He also criticized the administration’s handling of insecurity, stating that many Nigerians continue to struggle with banditry, kidnappings, and insurgent attacks despite repeated assurances from government officials.
According to the PRP chairman, insecurity remains one of the biggest concerns facing citizens, especially in communities repeatedly affected by violent attacks and criminal activities.
He argued that the government must place greater focus on practical solutions capable of improving security and restoring public confidence.
Beyond security, Baba-Ahmed also stressed the importance of leaders remaining connected to the people rather than focusing mainly on political calculations and power struggles ahead of future elections.
He stated that Nigerians expect leadership that directly addresses economic hardship, unemployment, inflation, and the rising cost of living currently affecting many households.
The PRP chairman further emphasized the importance of accountability and openness in governance, insisting that leaders must be willing to listen to criticism and diverse opinions.
According to him, humility and the ability to accept honest advice are necessary qualities for effective leadership, especially during difficult national periods.
His remarks have since generated reactions across political circles and social media, with supporters and critics of the current administration debating his assessment of President Tinubu’s leadership style.
Some political observers agreed with Baba-Ahmed’s concerns regarding the concentration of political power and the need for greater accountability within government institutions.
Others, however, defended Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that the administration inherited major economic and security challenges that require time and difficult reforms to address.
Analysts say the comments reflect growing political discussions already shaping the atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition parties and public figures increasingly evaluate the performance of the current administration.
As political debates continue nationwide, Baba-Ahmed’s remarks have added to wider conversations about governance, leadership, accountability, and the future direction of Nigeria’s democracy.
