If Amaechi Had Called Me Before ADC Presidential Primary, I Would Have Said Don't Run There - Wike Mocks Amaechi’s ADC Presidential Bid, Says He Would Have Advised Him Not to Run

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commented on the political choices of his longtime rival and former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, particularly regarding Amaechi’s participation in the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Wike made the remarks during an interview with Africa Independent Television (AIT) on June 1, 2026, where he discussed internal party politics, leadership decisions, and the broader dynamics shaping Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Wike, Amaechi’s decision to contest the ADC presidential primary was politically unwise, arguing that the party’s internal processes lacked transparency and structure needed to guarantee a fair competition.

He suggested that Amaechi may have miscalculated the political environment within the ADC and implied that the party was not in a position to conduct a credible and level playing field for aspirants seeking its presidential ticket.

Wike further stated that if there had been prior communication between him and Amaechi before the decision to join the race, he would have advised him against participating in the contest.

“If Rotimi Amaechi had called me, I would said don't run there. It's not clear at all, he can not get transparency or due process in the ADC,” Wike said.
