If Tinubu Does Not Resign In Six Months, We Will Apply All The Legislative Processes - Agbedi

A member of Nigeria's House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, has openly criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that the government has not met the expectations of many Nigerians since assuming office.

The lawmaker's comments have added to the growing public debate over the country's economic and security challenges.

Agbedi made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, where he voiced concerns about the direction of governance and the effectiveness of policies introduced by the current administration.

During the interview, the federal legislator expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as the government's inability to adequately address key national issues.

According to him, widespread hardship, rising living costs, and persistent security concerns have left many citizens disappointed and searching for stronger solutions from those in leadership positions.

The lawmaker stated that concerns about the country's trajectory have become increasingly pronounced among some political stakeholders and citizens who believe that urgent action is required to improve conditions across the nation.

Agbedi revealed that a six-month ultimatum had been issued to President Tinubu, emphasizing that the move was intended to underscore the seriousness of the concerns being raised.

He argued that elected leaders are accountable to the people and must demonstrate measurable progress in addressing the challenges confronting the country.

According to him, the ultimatum reflects growing frustration among those who feel that the administration has not delivered on expectations regarding economic recovery, governance reforms, and national security.

He maintained that public office holders must be subject to scrutiny and that democratic institutions have a constitutional responsibility to act whenever there are concerns about government performance.

Speaking during the television interview, Agbedi asserted that many Nigerians are struggling with the realities of daily life and are increasingly demanding tangible improvements from their leaders.

He noted that citizens expected significant progress when the current administration came into office and that many now believe those expectations have not been sufficiently met.

The lawmaker further suggested that lawmakers and other democratic actors have a duty to ensure that governance remains responsive to the needs of the people.

He stressed that constitutional mechanisms exist to address concerns about leadership and government accountability when necessary.

In his words, “President Tinubu has failed, that is why we gave him 6 months ultimatum, if he does not resign in 6 months, we will apply all the legislative processes.”

The statement has since generated widespread discussion in political circles, with supporters and critics of the administration offering differing views on the lawmaker's assessment.

While some observers argue that the government should be given more time to implement its policies and achieve results, others contend that the administration must respond more effectively to the economic and security pressures facing citizens.
