Vice President Kashim Shettima has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deliberately kept his plan to remove Nigeria’s fuel subsidy away from public discussion before taking office, describing the move as a strategic decision aimed at preventing opposition and ensuring smooth implementation once the administration assumed power.

Shettima made the remarks during a gathering of state governors and senior government officials at President Tinubu’s private residence in Lagos. 

The meeting was held as part of activities commemorating the Eid el-Kabir celebrations and the third anniversary of the current administration.

According to the Vice President, the issue of fuel subsidy removal was treated as a highly sensitive matter during the transition period.
