Peter Obi has called on President Bola Tinubu to either resign from office or abandon any plans to seek re-election, arguing that the Federal Government has failed to adequately address Nigeria's worsening security crisis.
In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, Obi made the remarks after visiting Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over the continued captivity of schoolchildren who were abducted more than 50 days earlier.
According to Obi, the prolonged detention of the children and the government's response reflect what he described as a serious failure of governance and leadership. He said both the people and government of Oyo State had every reason to feel disappointed because there had been no successful rescue of the victims despite the passage of several weeks.
The former Anambra State governor disclosed that he had previously spoken publicly about the incident and had appealed directly to the abductors to release the children.
