Fubara Strengthens APC Control in Rivers as By-Elections Loom

Recent ward congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have solidified Governor Siminalayi Fubara's grip on the party ahead of upcoming state assembly bye-elections.

The congresses, which took place across various constituencies, were key in positioning Fubara and his loyalists as the dominant force within the party’s local setup. This move is seen as a blow to rival factions previously in control of the Rivers APC.

"This is a clear message that Fubara is in charge," shared a local political analyst.

As political dynamics shift nationwide, the focus now also turns to the opposition, particularly Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Analysts note that despite a low profile recently, Obi is regrouping and aiming to enhance his party's reach, especially in the northern regions.

"The 'Obedient' movement remains strong among youth who are tired of traditional politics," one analyst remarked.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's influence appears to be waning, demonstrated by recent defections from his camp.

As 2027 approaches, all eyes will be on how these unfolding events reshape Nigeria's political landscape.
