Veteran entertainer and social activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has publicly declared his admiration and support for former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing him as “a small boy” compared to his age but someone he regards as a son.
Speaking during an interview on the KaaTruths Show, Charly Boy opened up about his long-standing connection to Obi, linking it to the legacy of his late father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, a respected jurist and former Supreme Court judge.
Charly Boy, known for his outspoken views on governance and social justice, emphasized that he is significantly older than Obi but sees a reflection of his father’s values in the former Anambra State governor.
According to him, Obi’s political philosophy and leadership style mirror the principles instilled by Justice Oputa.
In his word, “Peter Obi is a small boy, I am older than him but he is like a son trained by my father Justice Oputa,” Charly Boy said during the interview.
“We have the same characteristics so I am in love with him. And whether or not he becomes the salvation if he eventually gets there, it's in our hands.”
Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, often referred to as the “Socrates of the Supreme Court,” was widely respected for his integrity and commitment to justice.
He also chaired the Human Rights Violations Investigation Commission, popularly known as the Oputa Panel, which investigated abuses during Nigeria’s military era.
QCharly Boy has frequently spoken about his father’s influence on his worldview and activism.
The singer’s comments come amid ongoing political conversations about the 2027 presidential election.
Although the election is still some distance away, discussions around potential candidates and alliances have already begun to take shape within Nigeria’s political landscape.
Charly Boy made it clear that he intends to give Peter Obi his full backing ahead of the 2027 race.
He expressed confidence in Obi’s ability to bring about meaningful change in the country, citing shared values and a commitment to accountability and good governance.
