Murtala Muhammed: My Father Didn’t Go Around With Lot Of Security, It Was Easy To Assassinate Him- Daughter

According to a report by Punch Newspapers February, 2026, The circumstances surrounding the assassination of former Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed, and the style of leadership he practiced were discussed by Aisha Muhammed, his daughter.

She highlighted her father's simplicity and limited use of security procedures as key characteristics of his personality.

"My father didn't travel with motorcades, sirens, or a lot of security, as you know. " Fifty years later, some people tell me that the loss must have caused him a great deal of anguish, but that was who he was. 

Therefore, it was really simple to kill him since he wasn't surrounded by a large security force," Aisha Muhammed stated.

Her words coincide with the ongoing reflection by Nigerians on the legacy of her father, who ruled as Head of State from 1975 until his murder in 1976.
