According to a tweet on X, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Iranian Supreme Leader, has issued a fresh warning to US President Donald Trump, insisting that Washington will never succeed in eliminating the Islamic Republic.
Khamenei’s remarks come at a time of heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, as indirect negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program resume in Geneva, Switzerland, under international mediation.
In his post, Khamenei referenced Trump’s own statement about America’s long-standing inability to overthrow Iran’s system of government since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
According to him, “The US President has said that for 47 years, the United States hasn't been able to eliminate the Islamic Republic. That is a good confession. I say, 'You, too, will not be able to do this.'”
The Iranian leader’s message was widely seen as a direct response to repeated US threats of tougher action, including the possibility of military intervention if Tehran does not agree to limits on its nuclear activities.
The comments also come amid increased American military deployments in the Middle East, including aircraft carriers and advanced fighter jets positioned within reach of Iranian territory. Iran, for its part, has continued to showcase its defensive capabilities, including missile exercises near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.
Diplomatic efforts remain focused on preventing a wider conflict, with Oman and other intermediaries attempting to bridge differences between the two sides. Tehran has demanded the lifting of crippling economic sanctions as a key condition for any agreement, while Washington has pushed for broader restrictions beyond the nuclear file, including Iran’s ballistic missile program and its regional influence.
Khamenei highlighted the deep mistrust between the two nations, despite ongoing talks. Iranian officials continue to stress that negotiations should remain limited to nuclear issues, rejecting what they view as US attempts to expand the agenda.
